Borno Governor Babagana Zulum Declares Statewide Day of Fasting and Prayer for Peace

Borno State, Nigeria – November 22, 2025 – Governor Babagana Zulum has officially declared Monday, November 24, 2025, as a day of fasting and prayer for peace, unity, and prosperity in Borno State and across Nigeria.

The announcement was made during a statewide broadcast earlier today, in which Governor Zulum called on all residents to join in the day of spiritual reflection and national solidarity.

Governor Zulum Speaks on 15 Years of Insurgency

In his address, the governor described himself not only as a leader but as “a fellow citizen with a profound sense of patriotism”, urging all residents to come together in promoting lasting peace.

He reflected on the impact of Boko Haram insurgency, saying:

“For the past 15 years, Borno State has been in the global spotlight owing to the Boko Haram insurgency. This affected every segment of our society, displacing millions and disrupting livelihoods.”

Governor Zulum also commended the resilience and unity of the people of Borno, highlighting their collaboration with security agencies during the most challenging periods.

“By the will of God, we were able to overcome those harrowing days of insurgency by uniting as one, setting aside differences of ethnicity, religion, and sectionalism. We rallied behind our armed forces and security agencies to confront the common enemy, whose aim was to destabilise our state, the Northeast, and the nation as a whole,” he added.

Call for Nationwide Participation

The governor urged all residents, regardless of faith, to participate actively in the fasting and prayer initiative.

“I hereby declare Monday, 24th November 2025, as a statewide day of fasting and prayer for the restoration of peace in Borno State and the country in general. On this day, I call upon every resident of Borno State, regardless of faith, to join in prayer for lasting peace and prosperity. Let us devote ourselves to constant prayers, seeking Almighty God’s mercy,” Zulum emphasized.

Importance of Unity and Peace

Governor Zulum’s declaration underscores the continued need for social cohesion, national unity, and spiritual solidarity as Nigeria continues to navigate security challenges in the Northeast.
