El-Rufai Officially Joins ADC After Leaving APC, Receives Membership Card in Kaduna

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), months after announcing his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

El-Rufai completed his registration at the ADC ward office in U/Sarki, Kaduna, where he was issued his party membership card in the presence of loyal supporters, including former appointees, political associates and local government chairmen.

Why El-Rufai Left APC

The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) left the APC on March 10, stating that the ruling party had drifted away from the values and progressive vision that originally held it together.

In his resignation letter, El-Rufai accused the APC leadership of ignoring internal warning signs, failing to address growing divisions and abandoning what he described as “progressive governance principles.”

He wrote:

“Developments in the last two years confirm that there is no desire on the part of those who currently control and run the APC to acknowledge, much less address, the unhealthy situation of the party.”

According to him, several efforts to draw attention to the party’s declining direction were allegedly ignored.

What This Means Ahead of 2027

El-Rufai’s official move to the ADC has sparked fresh political conversations nationwide. Analysts say his defection could signal the start of major political realignments as Nigeria heads into the 2027 general elections.

His entrance into the ADC is expected to strengthen the party’s visibility, reshape political alliances in the North, and trigger behind-the-scenes negotiations among opposition blocs.
