FCT Police Debunk Alleged Assassination Attempt on Naval Officer Amid Wike Clash Reports

The FCT Police Command has denied reports claiming a naval officer involved in a confrontation with Minister Nyesom Wike escaped an assassination attempt in Abuja, warning the public against spreading false information.

Viral reports on Sunday night claimed that Lt. A.M. Yarima, a Nigerian Navy officer who recently had a heated exchange with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Abuja.

The claims alleged that unidentified men dressed in black, riding in two unmarked Hilux vans with no number plates, trailed the officer from the NIPCO Filling Station off Line Expressway to Gado Nasco Way. Sources initially suggested the officer noticed the surveillance and executed a “strategic maneuver,” evading the supposed assailants.

These reports sparked concern across social media, especially given the officer’s recent viral confrontation with Minister Wike over a disputed land site in Gaduwa District. The video of the clash had previously ignited nationwide debate, with veterans defending the officer and calling for accountability from public officials.

“The public is advised to disregard this false information and desist from spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary panic.”

She further urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police division.

“For the safety of all residents, the Command urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest Police Division,” Adeh added.

Following the incident, military veterans criticized Minister Wike for verbally insulting the officer and rejected calls for any disciplinary action. The Minister of Defence, Mohammad Badaru Abubakar, also assured that no law-abiding officer would be sanctioned for performing their duty.
