Trump Calls Nigeria “A Disgrace,” Accuses Government of Failing to Protect Christians – Donald Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump has again criticised Nigeria, describing the country as “a disgrace” while accusing the government of failing to protect Christian communities from extremist attacks.

Trump’s comments follow his earlier declaration that Nigeria is a “country of particular concern” over what he claims is intense and widespread Christian persecution — an allegation the Nigerian government has repeatedly denied, insisting that religious freedom remains fully protected.

Speaking during a conservative radio programme on Friday, Trump warned that he may consider deploying American military forces against Islamist militants in Nigeria if authorities do not take stronger action to curb attacks targeting Christians.

According to him, the situation in Nigeria amounts to a genocide.

“Nigeria is a disgrace. The whole thing is a disgrace,” Trump said. “They’re killing people by the thousands. It’s a genocide, and I’m really angry about it. And we give a lot of subsidies to Nigeria. We’re going to end up stopping.”

His remarks have sparked renewed controversy, especially as Nigeria continues to combat insecurity across several regions, including attacks attributed to extremist groups and armed bandits.

Trump’s latest statement adds pressure on the Nigerian government, which has consistently argued that it is taking necessary measures to address insecurity while rejecting any claims of religious-targeted violence.
