Peter Obi Reportedly Set to Join ADC Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is reportedly set to officially join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

A principal official of the ADC disclosed the development in Abuja, stating that Obi has allegedly concluded plans to defect to the party and is expected to formally announce his decision at a rally scheduled for December 31 in Enugu, regarded as the political hub of the South-East.

Preparations Underway

According to the source, Obi’s supporters and political loyalists have already begun making arrangements ahead of the anticipated declaration, suggesting that groundwork is being laid for a major political realignment.

The official added that discussions between Obi and the ADC leadership had intensified in recent weeks.

Meeting With ADC Leadership

It was further disclosed that about three weeks ago, following the ADC’s request for Obi to clarify his position regarding participation in the party’s coalition, the former Anambra State governor met with the ADC’s National Chairman, David Mark.

The meeting was described as part of efforts to finalise Obi’s potential move and align him with the party’s broader political strategy.

Factors Influencing the Move

Sources familiar with the matter indicated that the ADC’s internal arrangements and political posture may have played a role in persuading Obi to take the step, although no official confirmation has yet been issued by Obi or his media team.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Peter Obi nor the ADC has released a formal public statement confirming the planned defection.

Awaiting Official Confirmation

The reported development has already sparked discussions across political circles, particularly in the South-East, where Obi retains significant support. Observers note that an official declaration, if it occurs, could have implications for opposition politics ahead of 2027.

The situation remains subject to official confirmation, with attention now focused on the planned Enugu rally for clarity on Obi’s next political move.
