President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sympathy with traders and residents of Kano State following another major fire outbreak at the popular Singer Market, describing the incident as painful and alarming.
The fire reportedly began on Saturday evening and continued into Sunday morning, leaving a trail of destruction at the food market. Many traders were said to have lost valuable goods, with several now counting heavy financial losses.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the situation as tragic, especially because it happened less than two weeks after a similar fire incident at the same market.
Tinubu said he had contacted Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to get a direct update on the scale of the disaster.
According to the President, the repeated market fires affecting traders must no longer be treated as normal occurrences. He therefore ordered relevant authorities to carry out a full investigation into what is causing the frequent outbreaks.
He also called for urgent safety measures to prevent a repeat, noting that the constant destruction of traders’ businesses is unacceptable.
Tinubu assured victims that the Federal Government is concerned about their situation and will support efforts aimed at recovery and long-term prevention.
