FIFA World Cup Referee Artan Speaks After Missing Tournament Selection

Somalian referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan has broken his silence after failing to make the final list of match officials selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In remarks to Reuters, Artan expressed gratitude to both FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for their continued support throughout his refereeing journey.

“I would like to thank FIFA and CAF for all their support and I promise to keep my refereeing levels up as I concentrate on the future,” he said.

The experienced official also appreciated members of the football community who reached out to encourage him following the announcement.

“I want to thank the football family for their messages and wish my colleagues all the best success during the World Cup and I look forward to joining them again in future competitions,” he told Reuters.

Refocusing On The Future

Despite the disappointment of missing out on the global showpiece, Artan maintained a positive outlook, insisting that he remains committed to improving and returning stronger for future international assignments.

His comments have been praised by many football fans, who described his response as professional and inspiring.

Established Name In African Football

Artan became a FIFA-listed referee in 2018 and has since built a solid reputation across the African football scene.

Over the years, he has officiated in several major continental competitions, including the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations.

His performances have earned him recognition as one of Africa’s respected match officials.

Although he will not be part of the officiating team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Artan’s message suggests he remains focused on future opportunities and determined to continue representing African referees at the highest level of the game.
