The Lagos State Police Command has reassured residents that there is currently no verified intelligence indicating an imminent bandit attack on any school in the state.
The assurance followed reports circulating on social media about a threatening notice allegedly pasted at a school, warning of a planned abduction of pupils.
In a statement issued on June 8, 2026, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said police authorities immediately launched an assessment after becoming aware of the reports.
According to the statement, security agencies have not received any credible intelligence suggesting that bandits or kidnappers are planning attacks on schools within Lagos State.
“The Command wishes to reassure parents, guardians, school authorities and all residents that there is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State,” the statement said.
The police disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has directed an immediate review of the situation and ordered the deployment of enhanced security measures across affected areas and other strategic locations in the state.
As part of the security response, police officers, alongside other security agencies, have been deployed to schools, critical infrastructure and vulnerable locations to strengthen surveillance and reassure residents.
The Command stressed that while there is no confirmed threat, all security concerns are being treated with the seriousness they deserve.
Police authorities also warned that anyone attempting to spread fear, panic or misinformation capable of disturbing public peace would face legal consequences.
“The Command will not tolerate any attempt by miscreants, bandits, kidnappers or other criminal elements to threaten the peace and safety of residents,” the statement added.
The reassurance comes amid heightened public anxiety over recent kidnapping incidents in parts of the country, particularly attacks targeting schoolchildren and educational institutions.
The police urged parents, school administrators and residents to remain calm, vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious persons, movements or activities.
Residents were also encouraged to make use of emergency reporting channels and the nearest police stations whenever they observe anything that could pose a threat to public safety.
The Lagos State Police Command maintained that proactive security measures remain in place and assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
