The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has held high-level talks with Nigeria’s Minister of Power and Director-General of the Nigeria-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Joseph Tegbe, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in key sectors of the economy.
The meeting, held on Thursday, focused on expanding collaboration in electricity, infrastructure, industrial development and other strategic areas considered vital to Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda.
During the discussions, Ambassador Yu congratulated Tegbe on his recent appointment as Minister of Power and commended his efforts toward deepening relations between Nigeria and China through the strategic partnership framework.
The envoy reaffirmed China’s commitment to working closely with Nigeria to implement agreements reached during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Beijing Summit and other bilateral engagements between the leaders of both countries.
According to Yu, stronger cooperation in energy, power infrastructure and development projects will help elevate relations between the two nations while supporting economic growth and development.
He emphasized that enhanced engagement in these sectors would deliver practical benefits for citizens of both countries and further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership.
In his response, Tegbe described China as one of Nigeria’s most important development partners and expressed appreciation for Beijing’s longstanding support for the country’s socio-economic development.
The minister reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to expanding cooperation with China and pledged closer collaboration with the Chinese Embassy and relevant Chinese institutions.
He noted that future cooperation would focus on priority sectors such as electricity infrastructure, manufacturing, industrialization and modern agricultural development.
The meeting comes amid ongoing efforts by the Nigerian government to attract investment, improve electricity supply and accelerate infrastructure development as part of broader economic reforms.
China remains one of Nigeria’s largest development and investment partners, with cooperation spanning transportation, energy, telecommunications, manufacturing and other critical sectors.
Both sides expressed optimism that deeper collaboration would strengthen economic ties and contribute to Nigeria’s long-term development objectives.
