Abia State Governor Alex Otti has approved the payment of ₦25 million to support the medical treatment of veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu.
The payment was reportedly made on Wednesday directly to the hospital where the actress is currently receiving treatment.
The Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Dr Justice Okey Martins, popularly known as JMartins, disclosed the development in a post shared on his official X account on Thursday.
According to him, Governor Otti fulfilled his earlier promise by authorising the release of the funds before the close of work on Wednesday.
“Yesterday before the close of work, His Excellency @alexottiofr, our pragmatic leader, made good his promise, directing a ₦25 million payment to the hospital’s account where our Nollywood legendary actress Mrs Ngozi Nwosu is receiving treatment,” JMartins wrote.
The governor’s aide also expressed appreciation to Otti for supporting the veteran actress during her health challenge.
“We thank you immensely for your support and kindness of heart sir. History will be kind to you,” he added.
Earlier in the week, JMartins had announced that the governor approved the first tranche of medical assistance for Nwosu after reports emerged about her health condition and the financial support required for her treatment.
Ngozi Nwosu is one of Nollywood’s most respected actresses, having featured in numerous films and television productions over the years. She is widely recognised as one of the pioneers of Nigeria’s film industry and has built a career spanning several decades.
The governor’s intervention has attracted praise from many Nigerians, who commended the support as a significant gesture towards one of the country’s veteran entertainers.
