Military Forces Crush Attempted Attack on Zamfara Base, Prevent Highway Disruption

Nigerian troops have successfully repelled an attempted terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Mayanchi in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, forcing the attackers to retreat.

The incident was disclosed in a report by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who covers counter-insurgency operations in the Lake Chad region.

According to the report, suspected terrorists riding on motorcycles launched the attack at about 5:05 p.m. on July 18 in what appeared to be an attempt to overrun the military facility.

Troops stationed at the base reportedly responded immediately, engaging the attackers in a gun battle while reinforcements from the Forward Operating Base in Fangaltama were mobilised to support the operation.

“The coordinated response forced the terrorists to abandon the attack and retreat without breaching the military camp,” the report stated.

The report added that the successful defence of the base helped maintain security along the strategic Sokoto–Gusau highway, preventing any disruption to military activities and civilian movement on the route.

According to sources cited by Makama, the operation is part of ongoing military efforts to sustain pressure on armed groups operating in Zamfara State and restrict their activities across the region.

No casualty figures were provided, while security authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
