The self-acclaimed Director-General of the disputed Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeyemi Adeniyi, has claimed that he borrowed ₦400 million to secure what he described as a presidential appointment.
Adeniyi made the disclosure on Monday during a Zoom interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding the PFIPC scandal.
According to him, the money was obtained through loans, and those who lent him the funds have now reported him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an effort to recover their money.
“I borrowed this money, the ₦400 million, to pay for this appointment. In fact, those that I borrowed the money from have reported me to the EFCC to refund it,” he said.
Adeniyi also questioned the narrative surrounding the controversy, describing the government’s handling of the matter as both unfortunate and embarrassing.
He argued that it would be difficult for a single individual to manipulate the entire machinery of the Federal Government without the involvement of others.
“It is unfortunate and embarrassing. How can only me manoeuvre the entire Federal Government system?” he asked.
Responding to reports alleging that a United States lobbying firm was assisting him in seeking asylum abroad, Adeniyi dismissed the claim, saying he had no further information beyond what had already been published.
“I read it the way you read it,” he said.
The PFIPC controversy has continued to generate national attention following allegations that senior government officials were linked to questionable appointments and financial transactions.
While the Presidency has denied wrongdoing and distanced itself from the allegations, investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
