The Kano State Police Command has rescued a nine year old boy who was abducted nearly four weeks ago and arrested 10 suspects in connection with the crime.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed the development in a statement issued on July 31, 2026.
According to the statement, the breakthrough was achieved through sustained intelligence gathering, technical support and community based policing carried out by operatives of the command’s Anti Kidnapping Unit.
The victim, identified as Ubaiyu Muhammad Sammani of Rimin Kebbe Quarters, was reportedly abducted on July 6, 2026.
Police said the kidnappers later demanded a $30,000 ransom for his release.
The case was officially reported to the police on July 9, prompting the Anti Kidnapping Unit to launch an investigation under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
Investigators said intelligence led operations resulted in the arrest of 10 suspects, comprising nine men and one woman.
Preliminary findings indicated that the suspects allegedly played different roles in the operation, including unlawfully entering the premises, holding the victim in captivity, communicating ransom demands and facilitating his movement between different locations.
The police further identified Abubakar Salihu, popularly known as “Sankolo,” as the alleged mastermind behind the kidnapping.
According to the command, the 25 year old suspect, who is from Rimin Kebbe Quarters, remains at large, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend him.
The victim was eventually rescued on July 31 at about 8:30 a.m. during a tactical operation at Karshen Kwata, Rimin Kebbe, behind the residence of the fleeing principal suspect in Inusawa, Ungogo Local Government Area.
Police confirmed that the child was rescued unharmed and immediately taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, for medical evaluation.
The command said all arrested suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended officers of the Anti Kidnapping Unit for their professionalism and dedication throughout the operation.
He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across Kano State through proactive policing and stronger collaboration with members of the public.
The commissioner urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies, assuring them that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.
