Tyla Removes Lagos From A*POP World Tour Amid Boycott Calls

South African Grammy-winning singer Tyla has removed Lagos, Nigeria, from the schedule of her A*POP World Tour, days after her planned concert became the subject of widespread boycott calls on social media over renewed concerns about alleged xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.

A check of Tyla’s official tour schedule shows that the December 22 Lagos stop no longer appears on the itinerary. The remaining dates across Europe, North America and South Africa are still listed.

The controversy began shortly after Tyla announced her world tour earlier this week, with Lagos initially included as the only Nigerian stop before performances in Cape Town and Johannesburg. The announcement triggered heated debate online, with some Nigerians urging a boycott in response to reports of alleged xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa, while others argued that the singer should not be held responsible for political or social issues.

The debate intensified after activist VeryDarkMan publicly opposed the concert and threatened to mobilise supporters to stop the event from taking place. However, other public figures, including Omoyele Sowore, argued that Tyla should not be blamed for xenophobic violence and supported allowing the concert to go ahead.
