A fresh case of alleged child abuse and cruelty has been reported in Makurdi, Benue State, after a minor was allegedly tortured with a hot object by a woman he was living with.
Benue-based activist Zege Orkwande raised the alarm in a Facebook post on Friday, August 14, 2026, saying the incident occurred in the Old GRA area of Makurdi.
According to Orkwande, the child was allegedly subjected to abuse, assault and hard labour while living with the woman.
He described the alleged treatment as cruel and inhumane, claiming the woman had brought the minor from the village to work for her.
“Happened this morning at Old GRA, Makurdi. Child abuse/assault, hard labour and slavery,” Orkwande wrote.
He further alleged that the child suffered injuries after being tortured with a hot object.
“Look at what one madam at Behind Total fuel station, Old GRA Makurdi did to helper she brought from the village. This is evil, slavery and inhumane,” he added.
The activist called on the woman to report herself to a police station under the Benue State Police Command.
“Madam/sir, use 12hrs to act respectfully or I’ll drag you online before arrest/prosecution,” he warned.
The allegations have generated concern over the welfare and protection of vulnerable children who are taken from rural communities to work as domestic helpers.
