Gunmen have attacked the residence of the Amadabo of Finima, Aseme Alabo Dagogo Lambert Brown, in Finima community, Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 22, 2026, with residents reporting heavy gunfire between about 3am and 4am.

Buildings within the monarch’s residence, including fences and a vehicle, were reportedly hit by bullets during the attack.

Community sources also alleged that the gunmen extended the attack to the residences of some community leaders, firing shots at several properties.

Several people were reportedly injured during the violence. Sources said some victims sustained severe gunshot wounds and were taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment. One of the injured persons was reportedly said to have lost a hand.

Some community sources claimed that individuals had been identified as possible suspects in connection with the attack, but the allegations had not been independently confirmed.

The sources called on security agencies to investigate the incident and determine those responsible, including anyone who may have sponsored the attack.

Bonny Council suspends Finima events

Following the incident, the Bonny Local Government Council announced the immediate suspension of all events and cultural activities in Finima Community.

The council chairman, Amasenibo Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, issued the directive after visiting the community for an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Amb. Wisdom Chapp-Jumbo, the chairman condemned the violence and assured residents that measures were being taken to restore and maintain peace.

Pepple warned that anyone found responsible for the incident would be identified and brought to justice.

He also said no individual or group would be allowed to undermine the security and stability of Bonny Local Government Area.

The chairman commended security agencies for their response to the incident, saying their intervention helped bring the situation under control.

All security agencies in the area have been notified of the suspension of events and cultural activities in Finima.

The council warned that anyone who disregards the directive would be arrested.

Pepple urged residents of Finima and the wider Bonny Local Government Area to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding as security agencies continue to monitor the situation.
