The Niger State Police Command has arrested a hotel worker, Elijah Ahmed, over the alleged theft of eight refrigerators from the hotel where he works.
Spokesperson for the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued at the weekend.
According to the police, Ahmed, who resides around the Abdulsalam Motor Park area of Tunga, was arrested following a complaint about the missing refrigerators.
Police operatives attached to the Tudun-Wada Division subsequently took the suspect into custody and commenced an investigation into the alleged theft.
Abiodun said investigators recovered five of the eight refrigerators from the suspect.
The remaining three had allegedly been sold to a scrap dealer operating in the area.
“Based on a complaint, one Elijah Ahmed of Tunga, Abdulsalam motor park area was arrested by Police operatives attached to Tudun-Wada Div for stealing eight refrigerators in a hotel where he works,” Abiodun said.
The police spokesperson added that efforts were being made to locate the scrap dealer who allegedly purchased three of the refrigerators.
“During investigation, five of the refrigerators were recovered from him while he had sold three others to a scrap dealer in the area who is currently at large.”
The command said Ahmed has since been charged to court for prosecution, while the search for the alleged buyer continues.
