Katsina United Defender Ozor Chinedu Shows Signs of Life After Being Declared Dead

The football community has been thrown into confusion following a dramatic development involving Katsina United defender Ozor Chinedu, who reportedly showed signs of life after he was earlier declared dead.

The 18-year-old defender collapsed during a pre-season friendly between Katsina United and Niger Tornadoes at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina State.

Chinedu, who recently joined Katsina United from Kano Pillars, reportedly suffered the medical emergency while featuring in the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Cup. He was subsequently taken to K-Dara Specialist Hospital for treatment.

According to reports, doctors at the facility pronounced him dead on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

Following the reported death, Katsina United released a condolence message, while former and current clubs associated with the teenager, including Heartland FC and Kano Pillars, also expressed their grief on social media.

However, the situation reportedly took an unexpected turn when mortuary workers at Katsina General Hospital noticed movement in Chinedu’s body.

He was immediately taken to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital, where he was placed on oxygen and given further medical attention.

Katsina United media officer Nasir Gide confirmed the development, stating that Chinedu had reportedly been declared dead twice before signs of life were observed.

Heartland FC, where Chinedu previously played, also acknowledged the latest development and called on supporters and members of the football community to pray for his recovery.

As of Wednesday morning, August 12, Chinedu was reportedly still in critical condition at Katsina General Hospital.

The circumstances surrounding his earlier declaration of death and subsequent signs of life remain unclear, with the football community awaiting an official medical report on his condition.
