Multiple People Killed in Police Vehicle Crash on Major UK Road

Multiple people have died following a collision involving a police vehicle and a car on the A66 in northern England.

The crash occurred at about 3:39am on Saturday in South Bank, near Middlesbrough in Teesside, Cleveland Police said.

The incident involved a police vehicle and a Volkswagen Passat. The North East Ambulance Service later confirmed that three vehicles were involved in the collision.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said multiple people died in the crash, adding that officers were working to identify the victims and notify their families.

“Sadly, the collision has resulted in multiple fatalities. We are working to identify the victims and contact their families,” the police said.

Emergency services responded to the scene, with the North East Ambulance Service deploying 14 ambulances.

Despite efforts by emergency responders, several patients died at the scene, according to the ambulance service.

“We send condolences to all of those affected by such a tragic event and thank everyone for all they did to help,” the service said.

The A66 remains closed in both directions between Normanby Road and Church Lane as emergency services continue working at the scene.

Authorities said the road is expected to remain closed for some time and urged motorists to use alternative routes.

Cleveland Police described the situation as rapidly developing and appealed to members of the public to avoid speculation while investigations continue.
