A video showing what appears to be a tense encounter between Nigerian Army troops and suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram fighters has surfaced online.
The footage, which was seen online on Saturday, shows Nigerian troops travelling in a tracked armoured personnel carrier (APC) before coming face-to-face with a group of suspected terrorists travelling in a Toyota Hilux pickup.
The encounter reportedly occurred in an area affected by the ongoing insurgency in North-East Nigeria, where the military continues to conduct operations against terrorist groups.
In the footage, the military APC appears to hold its position as the Hilux carrying the suspected fighters approaches.
The identities of the individuals in the pickup and the exact circumstances surrounding the encounter could not be independently verified.
It is also unclear from the footage when or exactly where the incident occurred.
ISWAP and Boko Haram remain active in parts of North-East Nigeria, particularly Borno State and neighbouring areas, despite years of military operations targeting their fighters, camps and logistical networks.
