Lawyers representing Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, popularly known as OdumoduBlvck, have petitioned the Lagos State Police Command over an alleged attempt by officers to arrest the musician in the early hours of August 29, 2026.
The petition, dated August 31 and filed by Marshal Attorneys, was addressed to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, Lagos State Police Command.
According to the legal team, police officers allegedly approached OdumoduBlvck at about 3:00am on August 29 with an invitation letter purportedly issued by the Assistant Commissioner of Police.
“On the 29th of August, 2026 at about 3:00am, officers of the Nigerian Police Force purportedly acting on your Command swooped on our Client with an invitation letter purportedly issued by your good self.”
The lawyers described the circumstances surrounding the incident as concerning and requested an urgent investigationinto the actions of the officers involved.
The development follows a viral video showing the rapper confronting police officers shortly after performing at a Lagos nightclub.
In the footage, OdumoduBlvck could be heard challenging the officers over the attempted arrest. He maintained that his lawyers had already responded to a police invitation and questioned why he should accompany the officers.
“My lawyers attended to it. They came to your office.”
When an officer asked whether he was resisting arrest, the rapper reportedly said he was not resisting a lawful arrest and referred to an ex parte court order, which he claimed prevented the police from taking him into custody.
“I am not resisting an arrest. There is a motion ex parte that says you cannot arrest me. Why should I follow you? It is illegal.”
The officer reportedly responded that the police had not received the court document referenced by the musician.
Lawyers deny outstanding arrest warrant
In a statement accompanying their petition, OdumoduBlvck’s lawyers maintained that their client has no outstanding warrant of arrest and has not avoided legitimate police invitations.
They said the rapper has continued to cooperate with authorities through his legal representatives.
“Our Client remains, as he has always been, a law-abiding and reputable citizen who respects due process and the rule of law.”
The legal team also urged the public and media organisations to disregard unverified claims surrounding the incident and rely on statements issued by his representatives.
Lawyers question parallel police investigation
A major part of the petition concerns the lawyers’ claim that the matter prompting the police action is already being handled elsewhere.
The legal team said the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit was already handling the matter and that related proceedings were pending before an Abuja Magistrate Court.
They therefore argued that a separate investigation by the Lagos State Police Command could amount to a duplication of proceedings.
The lawyers also said they had previously responded to a police invitation on behalf of OdumoduBlvck. They further claimed that one of the lawyers had denied authoring an earlier invitation letter, which they said raised additional questions about the circumstances of the August 29 incident.
The legal representatives consequently asked the Assistant Commissioner of Police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged 3am arrest attempt and urged the Lagos Command to allow the IGP’s office to continue handling the matter.
The latest development has added a legal dimension to the confrontation between OdumoduBlvck and the police, while the exact allegations being investigated and the police’s position on the lawyers’ claims remain unclear.
At the time of this report, the lawyers’ allegation that there was no outstanding arrest warrant had not been contradicted by a detailed public statement from the police. The claim that a fake warrant was involved has also not been independently established. Available reports specifically refer to an invitation letter, rather than confirming that police officers presented a forged warrant.
