A 23-year-old man, Akuade Samuel, has been brought before a Magistrate’s Court in Ondo State over the alleged killing of his mother, Akuade Olufunke, in Ore.
Samuel was arraigned on a murder charge before Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi following allegations that he attacked his mother with a cutlass.
The prosecution, led by Taiwo Oniyeye, told the court that the incident occurred at about noon on August 6, 2026, in the Power Line area of Ore, within the court’s jurisdiction.
According to the prosecution, Samuel allegedly used a cutlass to inflict an injury on his mother’s neck, leading to her death.
The charge stated that Samuel allegedly “unlawfully used a cutlass to cut the neck” of his mother, Akuade Olufunke, resulting in her death.
The prosecution said the alleged offence contravenes Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
During the proceedings, the prosecutor asked the court to remand Samuel while the case file is forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
However, defence counsel, A.D. Obademi, opposed the immediate remand application and requested a short adjournment to allow him to prepare and file an affidavit responding to the prosecution’s request.
After hearing the submissions, the court adjourned the matter until August 31, 2026, when the application for remand will be considered.
Samuel remains before the court over the allegation, with further proceedings expected to determine the next stage of the case.
