Petrol prices have increased again across parts of Abuja after MRS filling stations and other major retailers adjusted their pump prices.
A market survey on Saturday showed that MRS stations along the Kubwa Expressway, Lugbe Expressway and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory increased their Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, price from N1,210 to N1,230 per litre.
Other major fuel stations, including NNPCL, Rainoil, Empire Energy and Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company, were selling petrol at prices ranging between N1,250 and N1,299 per litre.
The latest adjustments represent an increase of N20 per litre at MRS stations.
A manager at an MRS filling station, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the directive came from the company’s headquarters in Lagos.
“We got the directive to raise our price by N20 to N1,230 per litre on Friday, but no reason was given,” he said.
The development comes shortly after Dangote Refinery increased its petrol gantry price from N1,165 to N1,185 per litre on Friday.
With the latest adjustments, motorists in Abuja and surrounding areas could now pay between N1,230 and N1,299 for a litre of petrol, depending on the filling station.
The latest increase also comes amid a rise in international crude oil prices, with Brent crude trading above $94 per barrel.
The new pump prices mark a reversal of the reductions recorded by several Nigerian filling stations in recent weeks.
Fuel retailers had previously cut petrol prices by at least N90 per litre following an earlier reduction in Dangote Refinery’s gantry price.
The latest adjustments could therefore increase transportation and operating costs for residents and businesses in the Federal Capital Territory if higher pump prices persist.
