Sowore Claims DSS Planted Tracking Device on Vehicle in Port Harcourt

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has accused the Department of State Services, DSS, of monitoring his movements during his visit to Rivers State.

Sowore made the allegation after attending the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt.

In a post on X, the activist claimed that the DSS had been tracking his movements since he arrived in the state.

According to Sowore, members of his team noticed unusual movements after he delivered a speech at a Kay Hikers gathering, prompting them to change vehicles.

He alleged that an electronic tracking device was subsequently discovered underneath the security vehicle they had been using.

“The lawless @OfficialDSSNG has apparently been tracking my movements since I arrived in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference,” Sowore wrote.

“After my speech at the Kay Hikers gathering, we noticed some strange movements and decided to switch vehicles.

“That was when we discovered an electronic tracking device attached underneath the security vehicle we had used that night.

“They are really scared,” he added.

Sowore did not provide further details about the device or identify who allegedly installed it. His claim that the DSS was responsible for the device has also not been independently established.

The DSS had not publicly responded to the allegation as of the time of reporting.

Sowore has continued to criticise government institutions and security agencies over what he describes as attempts to monitor or intimidate him.
