Sowore Slams Adeleke Over Tinubu Endorsement, Questions Deaths Recorded During Osun Election

Activist and presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke over his decision to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term less than 24 hours after winning re-election.

Sowore made the criticism in a post on his official X account on Monday, August 17, 2026, while also questioning the deaths allegedly recorded during violence before and during the Osun State governorship election.

Sowore claimed that close to 50 people lost their lives in election-related violence and questioned why political actors had not publicly addressed the deaths.

“These evil people had to sacrifice close to 50 lives in violence before and during the Osun election, all just to prove that ‘agreement is agreement,’” Sowore wrote.

He also criticised Adeleke for endorsing Tinubu shortly after his election victory, arguing that the governor had cited their shared Yoruba identity as a reason for supporting the President.

“And when I said Adeleke has nothing upstairs, it took him less than 24 hours after INEC declared him the winner to prove that. He had to announce that he was supporting Tinubu re-election because Tinubu is a Yoruba man,” he wrote.

Sowore subsequently questioned who was responsible for the deaths allegedly recorded during the election and called for investigations into the incidents.

“Who killed them? Who ordered or enabled the violence? Who is investigating their deaths? Where is the justice for their families?” he asked.

“Wicked people,” Sowore added.

Adeleke was declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election after polling 511,067 votes, defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
