The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned six suspects before the Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka over separate allegations involving the defilement and sexual assault of minors, child abuse and alleged unlawful procurement of abortion.
The suspects were brought before the court on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, following investigations into the various cases.
One of the defendants, Chinedu Chiekwu of Umuoli Village, was arraigned over an allegation that he defiled an 11-year-old child on September 6, 2026.
Sunday Anele also appeared before the court over an allegation involving sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl, which allegedly resulted in pregnancy.
Another suspect, Ugochukwu Okereke, was arraigned for allegedly taking a 13-year-old girl to a nearby bush and sexually assaulting her.
Similarly, Ebuka Nwachukwu was brought before the court over an allegation that he lured a six-year-old girl into his room in Okpoko and sexually abused her.
The fifth defendant, Ogechi Ofoma of Awada, Obosi, is facing an allegation of physically abusing her five-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma.
Police alleged that Ofoma used a heated kitchen knife to inflict multiple injuries on the child.
The sixth suspect, Obianuju Okafor, was arraigned over an allegation concerning the unlawful procurement of abortion for her 15-year-old daughter.
Meanwhile, the police also provided an update on a widely circulated video involving a 36-year-old woman who was allegedly seen engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct involving her child.
According to the Anambra State Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, investigators have concluded their work on the case and forwarded the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for necessary legal action.
Ikenga added that the suspect remains in police custody as further legal proceedings are awaited.
The allegations against the defendants are subject to determination by the court.
