BBNaija Makes Life Harder After the Show, Former Housemate Kess Says

Former Big Brother Naija housemate Kess has opened up about the challenges contestants face after leaving the reality show, saying the competition for relevance and opportunities continues long after the programme ends.

Kess shared his thoughts in a post on X while reflecting on the experiences of former housemates and the pressure that comes with building a career after the show.

According to him, participating in BBNaija can make life outside the house more complicated because contestants are expected to compete for public attention, opportunities and financial rewards after their time on the programme.

“Big Brother makes your life harder. Winner or not, the moment you leave that house, you’re dealing with a version of life that is far more complicated than the one you left behind.”

The former housemate added that although contestants often receive encouragement from fans and members of the public after leaving the show, they still face the reality of competing for opportunities.

“Everywhere, words of encouragement. Baba, press money join.”

Kess also highlighted the growing number of contestants who have participated in the reality television franchise, noting that Big Brother Naija has produced 249 housemates across 11 seasons.

“Big Brother Naija has dished out 249 housemates in 11 seasons. Competition inside and outside the show.”

His comments have drawn attention to the realities former housemates face after the cameras stop rolling, particularly the challenge of maintaining visibility and converting the exposure gained from the show into sustainable opportunities.

While winning the competition can provide significant financial rewards and publicity, former contestants often have to build individual brands and careers after leaving the BBNaija house, competing with other housemates and public figures for attention and commercial opportunities.
