American rapper and singer has spoken publicly about her previous struggles with substance use, revealing that she battled cocaine use several years ago.
The Grammy-winning artist made the disclosure in a series of TikTok videos posted on Monday, August 31, where she reflected on some of the personal challenges she has experienced in the past.
Doja Cat said she struggled with cocaine approximately eight years ago, but stressed that the period is now firmly behind her.
She also addressed her previous relationship with alcohol and marijuana, acknowledging that she experienced difficulties with both substances.
According to the singer, although she would not describe herself as an alcoholic, her use of alcohol had become problematic at one point.
Doja Cat further discussed the impact of mental health struggles and social media, noting that dealing with both at the same time can be particularly challenging.
The 30-year-old artist also responded to online users who have labelled her “demonic,” appearing to criticise the negativity and personal projections that can emerge on social media platforms.
She described the internet as a place where people frequently project their own views and emotions onto others, while warning against allowing online trolls and bullies to consume too much attention or energy.
While reflecting on her past cocaine use, Doja Cat made it clear that she no longer considers it part of her current life, saying she is “well past that.”
Her candid revelations come as the singer continues to speak about personal struggles, mental wellbeing and the pressures that accompany intense public scrutiny in the age of social media.
