The Nigerian military has reportedly eliminated a notorious bandit commander, Kachalla Hare, following an encounter with security forces in Zamfara State.
Hare was said to have operated around Mada in Gusau Local Government Area and parts of neighbouring Bungudu Local Government Area, where his activities had reportedly caused fear among residents.
The development was disclosed by journalist Bakatsine, who covers security and conflicts in Nigeria’s North-West, in a post shared on X.
According to the report, Hare and members of his group engaged security operatives near Gusami village, located between Bungudu and Gusau, during an operation in the area.
Several members of the bandit group were reportedly killed during the encounter, while Hare sustained serious injuries and was captured by security personnel.
He was reportedly found with ammunition after his capture but later died from injuries sustained during the confrontation in the early hours of Wednesday.
There had been earlier reports suggesting that Hare had been killed after one of his associates was eliminated during a previous military operation. However, those reports could not be immediately verified at the time.
His reported death comes amid intensified military operations against bandit and terrorist groups operating across Zamfara and other parts of Nigeria’s North-West.
Security forces have in recent months stepped up operations targeting criminal groups and their commanders, with the military focusing on disrupting their camps, supply routes and operational networks.
If confirmed, Hare’s death would represent another significant blow to the bandit groups operating around Gusau, Bungudu and surrounding communities.
The circumstances surrounding the encounter and the identities of other casualties were not immediately independently confirmed.
