Prominent Peoples Democratic Party chieftain Chief Daniel Osi Orbih has died at the age of 79.
Orbih reportedly died on Monday, August 31, 2026, with his family confirming his death in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 1.
The veteran politician was a prominent figure in the PDP and was closely associated with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
His death has triggered mourning among his family members, political associates and supporters, who have begun paying tributes to the late politician.
Confirming his death, the family said the announcement was made “with profound sadness and a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of the Almighty God.”
The family disclosed that Orbih is survived by his wife, Mrs Florence Orbih, and his children, Ms Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr Mildred Omonemi Orbih, as well as his siblings and other members of the extended family.
“At this difficult time, we ask family members, friends and well-wishers to remember the entire family in their prayers as we mourn this painful loss,” the family said.
The family has yet to announce funeral arrangements for the late PDP chieftain.
It said details of the burial and other funeral activities would be communicated later.
Orbih was a notable figure within the PDP and played a significant role in the party’s political activities over the years. His association with Wike also made him a prominent figure in the political developments surrounding the party in recent years.
His death comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the PDP and other political parties facing major realignments and internal contests.
Family members have meanwhile asked friends, associates and well-wishers to pray for them as they mourn the death of the veteran politician.
