Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are poised to make unprecedented earnings in British boxing after their heavyweight showdown was confirmed for December 11 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
The highly anticipated all-British contest is expected to generate a total purse of about $200 million (£150 million), with the two former world champions reportedly agreeing to share the money equally.
Under the reported deal, Fury and Joshua could each receive up to £75 million ($99 million) for the fight, which would make it the biggest single payday ever earned by a British boxer.
Promoter Frank Warren confirmed the 50-50 financial arrangement while speaking to talkSPORT, describing the contest as a landmark event for British boxing.
The projected earnings would also surpass the previous career-high purses of both fighters. Fury’s biggest reported payday came from his previous heavyweight unification meeting with Oleksandr Usyk, while Joshua has also earned substantial sums from his world-title fights.
The December bout has been put together with the involvement of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority chairman Turki Alalshikh, UFC chief executive Dana White and streaming giant Netflix.
The commercial package is expected to draw significant international revenue through global broadcasting rights, venue-related fees and sponsorship agreements.
Fury and Joshua are also expected to appear together in London on September 30 for the official promotional launch ahead of their Cardiff encounter.
The December 11 fight will bring together two of Britain’s most recognisable heavyweight names, with both former champions looking to add another major chapter to their professional careers.
If the projected financial figures are realised, the Fury-Joshua clash will establish a new benchmark for earnings in British boxing.
