APC Denies Plot to Assassinate Atiku, Challenges Timi Frank to Provide Evidence

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has rejected allegations that the Federal Government is plotting to assassinate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, challenging African Democratic Congress (ADC) member Timi Frank to provide evidence to support the claim.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, and signed by its spokesperson, Dele Alake, the council described the allegation as serious and called on security agencies to invite Frank for questioning so that any information in his possession could be examined.

The council denied that President Bola Tinubu or the APC Presidential Campaign Council was involved in any plan to harm Atiku or any other opposition figure.

It maintained that allegations involving threats to life should be investigated regardless of political affiliation and urged Frank to submit any evidence he might have to the relevant authorities.

The council also dismissed claims that security personnel attached to Atiku had been withdrawn, insisting that the former vice president remained under the protection of the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to the statement, Atiku’s security arrangements had not been compromised. The council further claimed that Tinubu had directed security agencies to strengthen protection for presidential, vice-presidential, governorship and deputy governorship candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It also stated that Atiku was entitled to state-funded security protection in his capacity as a former vice president, adding that additional arrangements had been made in view of his status as a presidential candidate.

The council defended Tinubu’s record on democratic competition, noting that the president had previously been a prominent opposition figure before the APC defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 general elections.

It accused Frank of making inflammatory statements capable of heightening political tension and alleged that some opposition figures had used open letters and social media appeals to foreign leaders and international organisations to draw attention to their claims.

The APC campaign council warned that political rhetoric could become more heated as parties and candidates prepare for the 2027 elections. It urged political actors and their supporters to make responsible, evidence-based statements and avoid remarks that could provoke unnecessary tension.

The council called on parties to focus on issues affecting Nigerians and ensure that political competition remained peaceful and lawful.

The statement represents the APC campaign council’s response to the allegation. The material provided for this report does not include Frank’s full account or independent evidence establishing whether any assassination threat exists. The allegation and the council’s denial should therefore be distinguished from independently verified findings.
