The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out an eight-count charge against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who was accused of impersonating the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), after the Federal Government sought to terminate the proceedings and pursue the case before another court.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar struck out the charge on Monday after the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, informed the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed the case and determined that it should be prosecuted at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Oyedepo explained that the review identified issues with the original charge, which had been filed by the Inspector-General of Police. According to him, the alleged forgery offences involving documents linked to the purported agency fell within the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.
The prosecution told the court that a fresh charge had already been filed before the FCT High Court and that the government intended to proceed with Adeyemi’s arraignment without delay.
The DPPF consequently asked Justice Umar to strike out the existing charge to allow the matter to proceed before the court considered appropriate to hear it.
Adeyemi’s counsel, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application. The judge subsequently granted the request and struck out the eight-count charge.
The ruling allows the prosecution to pursue the allegations through the newly filed case at the FCT High Court. It does not amount to a conviction or a determination of Adeyemi’s guilt.
Adeyemi, 38, had been charged alongside two other defendants in a case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025, involving allegations of conspiracy and forgery connected to the purported agency.
The two co-defendants, identified in the report only as Femi and Anu, were said to be at large. Their full names were not provided.
The next stage of the proceedings is expected to take place before the FCT High Court, where the fresh charge will form the basis of the prosecution’s case against Adeyemi.
