The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the alleged rape of a 70-year-old woman in Igueben Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed the arrest on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, during a briefing on the command’s operational activities and achievements over the past week.
Ikoedem, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, said the suspect remains in police custody as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence.
She described sexual violence as a serious concern and assured that the matter was being handled in line with due process.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect would face prosecution if the investigation establishes sufficient grounds for charges.
The Edo State Police Command also announced the arrest of seven suspected cult members by operatives of the Otuo Division.
The arrests were reportedly made during an intelligence-led operation focused on tackling cult-related activities and improving security within the area.
The command said investigations into the cases are ongoing.
