The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man identified as Zazzayanu Halilu over the alleged rape and repeated sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl in Abuja.
The suspect was arrested on October 2 after police officers on routine patrol reportedly discovered the incident inside a parked vehicle near the Airport Bridge Taxi Park.
The FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said officers noticed a navy blue Volkswagen with tinted windows and registration number KMC567LQ parked with its windows closed. The vehicle was reportedly shaking, prompting the officers to approach it and investigate.
According to Adeh, the officers opened the vehicle and allegedly found Halilu sexually assaulting the minor. The suspect was arrested, while the girl was rescued.
Preliminary investigations reportedly indicated that the suspect had repeatedly lured and sexually abused the girl inside the same vehicle at the location.
Police alleged that he threatened to harm her if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
The investigation also took a disturbing turn after a medical examination reportedly revealed that the girl was approximately three months pregnant.
Adeh said the victim was receiving medical care and undergoing further assessment following her rescue.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
The police urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station.
Members of the public can also contact the FCT Police Command through its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against the suspect have yet to be determined by a court.
