Two police officers have been killed and three others injured after unidentified gunmen attacked the Uratta Eziukwu Police Station in Aba, Abia State, on Saturday.
The attackers reportedly arrived with improvised explosive devices and vandalised parts of the station during the assault. They set a police van ablaze, damaged another vehicle and destroyed a power generating set and other property within the facility.
The gunmen also smashed windows and doors at the station before fleeing the scene.
Speaking to journalists at the station after the incident, Abia State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, condemned the attack and said the command had begun efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
“The most important thing is to get the culprits, and that is what we are doing. Wherever they are, we are going to get them; even if they enter the bush, we are going to get them,” Afolabi said.
The police commissioner also thanked Governor Alex Otti for visiting the affected station, describing the governor’s presence as an encouragement to officers following the attack.
The three injured victims, who reportedly sustained gunshot and machete wounds, were taken to the Abia State University Teaching Hospital in Aba for medical treatment.
Governor Otti also visited the injured victims at the hospital, according to the report.

The police command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the attack. Further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident and the identities of the victims were not provided in the supplied report.
