The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of non-sensitive election materials to some states ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja during a national stakeholders’ meeting held to mark 100 days to the 2027 general election.
Amupitan said the commission had also made progress with the production of 57,000 new Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices, while offshore production and fleet contracts had been awarded.
“Some states have started receiving some non-sensitive materials ahead of the election, procurement for the printing of ballot papers and results sheets is nearly completed, and advancement towards the final contract awards,” Amupitan said.
The INEC chairman said the delivery of new operational vehicles was ongoing across the country, while civil works, construction of dedicated BVAS storage facilities and Local Government Area offices were also progressing.
He added that the commission was carrying out renovations across its offices nationwide as part of its preparations for the elections.
According to Amupitan, the contract for solar power installations across INEC offices has been awarded, while upgrades to critical information and communications technology infrastructure and applications have been implemented.
He said the commission’s procurement department was closely monitoring suppliers, contractors and internal delivery schedules to ensure that all procurement activities were completed within the statutory timelines.
The commission has also acquired 57,000 new BVAS devices as part of its technology upgrades for the 2027 elections. Existing BVAS devices have undergone software hardening, battery optimisation and biometric calibration, according to Amupitan.
INEC’s official election timetable places the Presidential and National Assembly elections on February 20, 2027, while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.
The latest preparations come as INEC moves into the final phase of logistics and technology deployment ahead of the polls, with the commission saying its procurement and operational activities are being aligned with the statutory election timetable.
