Prophet’s Son Arrested in Ogun Over Alleged Facebook Impersonation, N18m Fraud

Operatives of the Ilaro Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested Adewale Arojah, who is accused of impersonating a fellow prophet on Facebook and allegedly defrauding members of the public of more than N18 million.

Arojah, identified by the police as the son of a prophet, allegedly cloned the Facebook profile of Prophet Dr Muyiwa Akogun and used the account to deceive unsuspecting people seeking prayers and spiritual assistance.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the police, the case came to light after Prophet Akogun lodged a complaint with the Ilaro Division on October 3, 2026, following complaints from members of the public about fraudulent activities allegedly being carried out using his identity.

Following the complaint, the Divisional Police Officer of the Ilaro Division reportedly deployed intelligence and detective operatives to identify and locate the person behind the account.

The police said intelligence gathering and technological monitoring eventually led investigators to a village in Ajegunle, along the Ilaro-Ibogun axis, where the suspect was arrested.

During interrogation, the police said Arojah allegedly confessed to impersonating Prophet Akogun and using the cloned account to provide fake prophecies and offer prayer services to people in Nigeria and abroad.

Preliminary investigations, according to the command, showed that the suspect allegedly targeted people searching for spiritual assistance through the prophet’s Facebook page. He allegedly gained their confidence before collecting money from them.

The police said the amount allegedly obtained from victims had so far been put at more than N18 million.

“The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution,” the police statement said.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Ilaro police operatives for their response to the complaint and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling online fraud and identity theft.

Ojajuni also urged members of the public to exercise caution when interacting with religious leaders, celebrities and other public figures through social media platforms.

He advised people to verify the authenticity of social media accounts before communicating with such individuals and warned against transferring money for purported spiritual remedies without properly establishing who they are dealing with.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue. Any further determination of the allegations will depend on the outcome of the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
