Suspected bandits have reportedly attacked a vehicle conveying passengers from Sokoto city towards Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, with unconfirmed reports claiming that everyone inside was killed.
The incident was reported by Bakatsine, a conflict reporter who covers security developments in northwestern Nigeria. According to his account, the armed attackers intercepted the vehicle along the road leading to Isa and opened fire on the occupants.
The number of people killed has not been independently established, and the identities of the victims remain unclear.
Bakatsine also reported that some of the passengers may have been among approximately 3,000 people recruited by the Sokoto State Government who had been invited to Sokoto city for further screening and the collection of their documents.
The passengers were reportedly travelling back home when the attack occurred.
Photographs said to show some of the deceased were shared alongside reports of the incident. However, the images and the circumstances surrounding the reported killings have not been independently verified.
As of the time of this report, no official statement confirming the attack, the identities of the victims or the number of casualties had been provided by the relevant authorities.
The reported incident has raised further concerns about the safety of road users in Sokoto State, where armed groups have continued to pose security challenges in parts of the northwestern region.
TheNaijaWide will update this report when additional details are confirmed by security agencies or other credible sources.
Until then, the reported casualty figures and the alleged connection between the passengers and the state government’s recruitment exercise should be treated as unverified.
