Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has predicted a decisive victory over Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghanin the 2027 Kogi Central senatorial election, expressing confidence that voters will deliver a strong result for him and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bello made the declaration during an appearance on TVC’s Sunday Politics, where he spoke about the forthcoming election and his bid to represent Kogi Central in the Senate.
The former governor is seeking the seat on the APC platform, while Akpoti-Uduaghan, the incumbent senator, is running under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The contest is expected to draw attention given the history of political tension between the two figures.
Speaking about the election date, Bello said the outcome would demonstrate the level of support he enjoys among voters in the senatorial district.
“16 January 2027 is around the corner, the result will speak for itself,” he said.
He added that he expected a strong performance for himself and his party when voters go to the polls.
“Let the day come and go, the day will bring massive votes, a decisive victory for Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, and for APC,” he stated.
The rivalry between Bello and Akpoti-Uduaghan has previously involved public accusations and legal disputes.
In October 2022, Bello accused the senator of involvement in the Ajaokuta massacre and the Kuje prison break, incidents reported to have occurred between June and July of that year. Akpoti-Uduaghan denied the allegations, saying she was in the United States at the time for pregnancy-related reasons and childbirth.
On November 4, 2022, Akpoti-Uduaghan responded by describing Bello as a “murderer, serial killer, and a terror to the people of Kogi State.” Those remarks reflected the depth of the disagreement between the two politicians.
The 2027 contest is scheduled to take place on January 16, 2027, the date set by the Independent National Electoral Commission for presidential and National Assembly elections.
Bello’s prediction remains a statement of confidence ahead of the election. The eventual outcome will be determined by votes cast and officially declared by the electoral commission.
