The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that two US service members were killed and another remains missing following a military operation in Jordan, as tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate.
According to a statement released on Saturday, the incident occurred during a joint military operation involving US and partner forces while defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks.
CENTCOM also disclosed that four other US service members were injured during the operation. They received medical treatment at hospitals in Jordan and have since been discharged.
US military authorities did not provide details about the exact circumstances surrounding the attack or identify the casualties. Officials said the names of the deceased and the missing service member would be released approximately 24 hours after their families have been notified.
The latest fatalities bring the reported number of US service members killed since the conflict began to 16, while more than 430 personnel have been wounded.
The announcement came shortly after Iran’s Supreme Leader issued a fresh warning to the United States, saying America would face “unforgettable lessons” if attacks against Iran continued.
The remarks, broadcast on Iranian state television, also dismissed the authority of US President Donald Trump, describing his signature as “worthless and invalid.”
The comments followed statements by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, who said Tehran was suspending its commitments under an interim agreement reached about a month ago. According to him, Iran made the decision because it believes the United States has violated the terms of the deal.
The renewed exchange of threats has further weakened hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough as fighting between both countries continues.
In a separate update, CENTCOM said its forces carried out a seventh consecutive night of strikes, targeting what it described as surveillance facilities, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage sites and maritime capabilities.
The conflict has increasingly centred on the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes for crude oil exports.
Analysts warn that continued fighting in the region could threaten civilian infrastructure, including desalination plants that supply drinking water, while also increasing pressure on global energy markets.
The situation remains fluid, and both military and diplomatic developments are being closely monitored as the conflict continues.
