A Federal Government investigative panel has uncovered details of the special treatment allegedly enjoyed by popular crossdresser Okuneye Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, during his six-month stay in correctional facilities in Lagos.
According to the panel’s findings, Bobrisky was provided with accommodation and privileges that differed significantly from the conditions experienced by most inmates at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri.
The report stated that he was housed in a private cell equipped with several amenities, including a personal toilet and bathroom, a television set, refrigerator, carpet, humidifier and other comforts not commonly associated with prison accommodation.
Investigators also found that Bobrisky allegedly enjoyed unrestricted access to visitors throughout his incarceration. Family members were reportedly allowed to bring food to him, while visits were said to take place without the limitations typically imposed on inmates.
The panel further revealed that similar arrangements were observed when he was moved to the Maximum Security Custodial Centre. His cell was reportedly furnished with decorative wallpaper, a large bed, carpet, television and humidifier. In addition, an inmate was allegedly assigned to cater to his personal needs.
One of the most striking discoveries made during the investigation was the presence of a soundproof door attached to Bobrisky’s cell. The panel noted that this feature was unique and was not found in any other cell on the same floor of the facility.
The report also raised concerns that Bobrisky may have had access to mobile phones while serving his sentence, despite correctional regulations prohibiting inmates from using such devices while in custody.
The Federal Government established the investigative panel following allegations that surfaced on social media. The controversy began after social media activist Martins Vincent Otse released an audio recording in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed he paid officials to secure preferential treatment during his imprisonment.
Following its review, the panel recommended that authorities conduct further investigations into the allegations surrounding the alleged special treatment and possible misconduct by officials.
The panel also advised that VeryDarkMan be investigated over alleged breaches of data privacy laws and the circulation of claims it described as unverified.
The findings have renewed public attention on conditions within Nigeria’s correctional system and the enforcement of prison regulations for high-profile inmates.
