The Nigerian naira recorded a relatively stable performance against the United States dollar on Friday, June 19, 2026, as trading remained largely unchanged across both the official and parallel foreign exchange markets.
Data from the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) showed the local currency trading around ₦1,360 per dollar at the official window, extending the stability witnessed in recent weeks.
Market figures indicated that the exchange rate fluctuated between ₦1,357 and ₦1,364 per dollar during the day’s trading activities.
Analysts attributed the naira’s resilience to ongoing foreign exchange reforms, improved transparency in the market and sustained dollar supply from authorised dealers.
The official market has largely remained within the ₦1,360 range despite fluctuations in global currency markets and external economic pressures.
At the parallel market, commonly referred to as the black market, the dollar traded between ₦1,390 and ₦1,400, depending on location and dealer quotations.
The difference between the official and parallel market rates remained relatively moderate compared to wider gaps recorded in previous years.
Recent trading trends showed the NFEM rate moving within a narrow band of ₦1,360 to ₦1,373 per dollar, while parallel market transactions continued to hover around ₦1,390 to ₦1,400 per dollar.
Based on prevailing exchange rates, $100 was valued at approximately:
• ₦136,000 at the official market
• ₦139,000 to ₦140,000 in the parallel market
Foreign exchange traders noted that investor sentiment remains closely tied to factors such as export earnings, diaspora remittances and foreign portfolio inflows.
Market participants are also monitoring monetary policy decisions and liquidity levels, which could influence the direction of the naira in the coming weeks.
