Fashion designer Yomi Casual has paid a heartfelt tribute to Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo following his death in May, describing the late movie star as a loyal friend and brother whose impact on those around him will never be forgotten.
In an emotional message shared on Friday, Yomi reflected on their friendship, which spanned more than 15 years. He said their relationship went beyond friendship, noting that they shared memorable moments, personal struggles, achievements and business successes together.
According to the designer, Alexx Ekubo played several roles in his life, serving as a trusted adviser, teacher and dependable companion. He added that the actor was always available whenever he was needed and was admired for his kindness, generosity and unwavering loyalty.
Yomi said the actor became an important part of his family and stood with them during both happy and difficult moments. He noted that the closeness they shared was rare and often attracted attention from outsiders who did not fully understand the depth of their bond.
He acknowledged that like most close relationships, they had disagreements over the years but always found ways to resolve their differences and remain united.
The fashion entrepreneur also spoke about rumours and criticisms they faced, saying various narratives were created about their friendship. Despite this, he maintained that they remained committed to each other because they understood the value of their relationship.
Expressing his deepest pain, Yomi revealed that he regrets not spending more time with Alexx Ekubo during the actor’s final days. He said he would have made every effort to be by his side if he had known that time was running out.
He also explained that he understood why the late actor chose to keep his illness away from public attention, adding that Alexx handled his health challenges with dignity and strength.
Yomi thanked the deceased actor for years of friendship, guidance and sacrifices, saying the memories they created together would remain with him forever. He added that he would miss their conversations, jokes, business discussions and the brotherhood they shared.
Alexx Ekubo, one of Nollywood’s most popular actors, passed away in May, leaving colleagues, friends and fans across Nigeria mourning his death. Tributes have continued to pour in from members of the entertainment industry, with many remembering him for his contributions to film and the relationships he built over the years.
Yomi concluded his tribute by praying for his late friend to rest peacefully, saying his memory would never fade and expressing hope that they would meet again.
