Nollywood actress Annie Macaulay has addressed the backlash that followed her congratulatory message to fashion designer Abiodun Folashade Tokunbo, popularly known as CEO Luminee, after news emerged that the designer had welcomed a child.
The controversy erupted after CEO Luminee announced the birth of her baby with actor Olanrewaju James Omiyinka, widely known as Baba Ijesha. The actor recently completed a prison sentence after being convicted in a sexual offence case involving a minor.
The announcement quickly generated strong reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing concern over Baba Ijesha’s return to public life and his reported relationship with the fashion entrepreneur. Critics also questioned Luminee’s decision to build a family with the actor, noting that she already has a daughter from a previous relationship.
As discussions intensified online, Annie Macaulay, who was formerly married to music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as Tuface, shared a congratulatory message to CEO Luminee. Her comment, however, drew criticism from social media users who felt it was inappropriate given the circumstances surrounding the actor.
Several critics reminded the actress that she is a mother and argued that she should have been more mindful before publicly celebrating the news.
Responding to the criticism, Annie clarified that she was unaware of the details that had sparked the public outrage. According to her, she only knew CEO Luminee through a previous professional engagement, explaining that the designer had made an outfit for her some months earlier.
The actress stated that her congratulatory message was based solely on the birth announcement and was not connected to any knowledge of the controversy involving Baba Ijesha. Her response has since sparked further conversations online as the debate surrounding the couple continues.
