COOU Sacks Five Staff Members Over Misconduct, Sexual Harassment Allegations and Ethical Violations

The Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University has approved the dismissal of five staff members, including two professors, over various cases of misconduct and ethical breaches.

The decision was reached during the institution’s 122nd Governing Council meeting held on June 12, 2026, according to a statement released by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Harrison Madubueze.

The university disclosed that those affected by the disciplinary action include C. C. Nwabachili, the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Chike Osegbue of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences.
Also dismissed were I. H. Iheukwumere and Emeka Nwabunnia, both from the Department of Microbiology at the university’s Uli Campus.

The institution said the two staff members were found culpable of sexual abuse, harassment, intimidation, extortion and other forms of professional misconduct.

The fifth staff member affected by the decision is Ifeoma Kakulu, who served as the Faculty of Law Examination Officer in the Exams Unit at the Igbariam Campus when the alleged offence occurred.

The university did not provide detailed information on the specific offences linked to each dismissed employee but stressed that the disciplinary measures followed the council’s review of the cases.

Reaffirming its commitment to accountability and ethical standards, the Governing Council warned that any conduct capable of damaging the institution’s reputation would attract strict sanctions.

The university further stated that it remains committed to maintaining a safe learning and working environment while promoting transparency, responsibility and institutional integrity across its campuses.

The latest disciplinary action underscores COOU’s efforts to strengthen professional standards and enforce its code of conduct among staff members as part of broader measures aimed at safeguarding the institution’s reputation and academic excellence.
