Fresh attacks by suspected bandits have claimed the life of a commercial driver and led to the abduction of nine people in separate incidents along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road and parts of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The deceased, identified as Mallam Ibrahim Adamu, was reportedly a grandson of a District Head in the Birnin Gwari Emirate.
According to family sources, Ibrahim was travelling along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari highway when armed men attacked his vehicle near Kwanan Giginya.
The attackers reportedly opened fire on the vehicle, killing the driver on the spot before abducting about five passengers and fleeing into the surrounding bush.
In a separate incident, four farmers were reportedly kidnapped while working on their farms in the Kurgi area of Birnin Gwari.
Residents said the victims were carrying out routine farming activities when the gunmen invaded the area and whisked them away to an unknown location.
The latest attacks have renewed concerns about insecurity along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari corridor, an area that has witnessed repeated incidents of kidnapping, killings and armed robbery over the years.
Many residents expressed frustration over the continued violence despite previous peace initiatives and reconciliation efforts aimed at reducing attacks in the region.
According to community members, the persistent insecurity has severely affected farming activities, transportation and local businesses, forcing many residents to live in fear.
They also alleged that armed groups frequently rob travellers and villagers of motorcycles, mobile phones, cash and other valuables during attacks.
Residents are now calling on security agencies to increase patrols along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari highway and strengthen security operations in vulnerable communities to prevent further attacks.
The incidents add to growing concerns over the safety of rural communities in Kaduna State, where kidnappings and violent attacks continue to pose serious challenges despite ongoing security operations.
