CAN Declares Nationwide One-Day Prayer Over Alleged Christian Genocide in Nigeria

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has announced a nationwide one-day prayer session aimed at seeking divine intervention over what it describes as ongoing “genocide” and widespread insecurity affecting Christian communities across the country.

The decision was reached during CAN’s National Executive Council meeting held in Jos, Plateau State.

Nationwide Prayer Scheduled for December 7

In a memo dated November 20, 2025, and signed by CAN’s General Secretary, Apostle Prof. Samson A. Fatokun, the Christian body directed all bloc leaders, zonal and state chairmen, denominational heads, and resident pastors to mobilise members for the special prayer scheduled for Sunday, December 7, 2025.

According to the memo, churches across all denominations are expected to observe the prayer simultaneously.

Five Key Prayer Points Announced

CAN listed five major areas of focus:

1.An end to the alleged genocide against Christians.

2.Safe return and resettlement of displaced victims.

3.Divine intervention to stop terrorists, kidnappers, and bandits.

4.Wisdom for national leaders in handling Nigeria’s security challenges.

5.Restoration of peace and stability across the nation.

The memo emphasized that the CAN President, His Eminence Archbishop (Dr.) Daniel C. Okah, urged all churches to conduct the prayer “with utmost fervency,” expressing faith that God would intervene as recorded in biblical accounts.

Biblical Backing and Call for Unity

Referencing 2 Chronicles 7:14 and Esther 4:15–16, CAN encouraged Christians to intercede passionately for the country, stressing that spiritual intervention is crucial during this period of heightened insecurity.

The document, titled “Declaration of a One-Day Nation-Wide Prayer Against Christian Genocide in Nigeria,” reaffirmed the commitment of CAN’s national leadership to defending the interests and welfare of Christians across the country.
