Tinubu Orders Immediate Withdrawal of Police From VIP Security Duties

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the withdrawal of police officers currently assigned to provide security for Very Important Persons (VIPs) across Nigeria.

The directive, announced in a statement by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, followed a high-level security meeting held on Sunday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Police Officers to Focus on Core Duties

According to the Presidency, police personnel previously attached to VIPs will now be redeployed to strengthen security operations nationwide and improve community policing.

VIPs still requiring escorts or protection will henceforth obtain armed security personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The decision comes amid growing concerns over the inadequate number of police officers available for public safety, especially in rural and high-risk communities.
