Popular American streamer iShowSpeed (real name Darren Watkins Jr.) has ignited fresh football rivalry debates online after making a controversial comment about Lionel Messi during a visit to the home of Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazário (R9).

The viral moment occurred while Speed toured Ronaldo’s iconic trophy room, a space filled with historic football awards, including multiple Ballon d’Or trophies.

In the video clip currently circulating on social media, iShowSpeed could barely contain his excitement as he explored R9’s personal collection of trophies.

Pointing animatedly at the awards, he shouted in his signature high-energy style, reacting with disbelief as he held and admired the Ballon d’Ors, while joking with Ronaldo and members of his team.

The Comment That Set Social Media on Fire

The atmosphere took a dramatic turn when Speed brought up football rivalries. While speaking to Ronaldo’s guide, he was asked about Lionel Messi, prompting a blunt and controversial response.

“I don’t like Messi because he’s short and trash… Ronaldo is better!” Speed declared.

He also referenced Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he has openly supported for years, further fueling the age-old Messi vs Ronaldo debate.

Fans React: Praise, Backlash, and Memes

Speed’s statement immediately triggered mixed reactions online. While some fans dismissed it as playful banter consistent with his exaggerated persona, others criticised the remark as disrespectful to one of football’s greatest players.

Here are some reactions from social media:

• @EngrOyiboDonatus:
“Just because Ronaldo is your favourite doesn’t mean Messi isn’t great. Both are legends and deserve respect.”

Internet Reacts as Rivalry Lives On

The clip has since gone viral, with fans debating whether Speed was joking or genuinely dismissing Messi’s legacy. Regardless, the moment has once again proven that football rivalries remain one of the internet’s most explosive topics, especially when influencers weigh in.
